Kansas educators increasingly recognize the need to more fully integrate the science and principles of human development into proven educational practices. Social emotional learning (SEL) is at the heart of this integration. Schools progressively seek to shift from a “stand-alone initiative mindset” to embracing social emotional development as an essential element of growth and learning that is integrated throughout a student’s experience of school. To that end, the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) developed a practical tool depicting this visionary aim, called the “Kansans Can Integrated Learning Process.” With a copy of the visual tool in hand, participants will explore foundational components of social-emotional development, and discover how these components are seamlessly integrated into all aspects of the school environment.
