Chronic absenteeism has a direct and significant impact on student achievement and gradation. Chronic absenteeism is a predictor of being grade level in 3rd grade reading, failing classes in high school, and ultimately in dropping out. In this session we will define chronic absenteeism and its impact on education, investigate the causes of chronic absenteeism, and discuss what teachers and administrators can do to combat the issue.
